Sharad Kumar 30th Lorne Cancer Conference 2018

Sharad Kumar

Sharad is a NHMRC Senior Principal Research Fellow, a co-Director of the Centre for Cancer Biology, a Research Professor and Chair of Cancer Biology at the University of South Australia. His laboratory has made several seminal contributions to biomedical sciences, such as the discovery of Nedd genes, which include Nedd2 (caspase-2), one of the first mammalian caspase, and Nedd4, the prototypic member of the C2-WW-HECT type of ubiquitin ligase family. His research interests are in caspase biology and functions, mechanisms of developmentally programmed cell death in model organisms, and the pathophysiological functions of the Nedd4 family of ubiquitin ligases. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. His research contributions have been recognised through the ASBMB Amersham Biosciences Award, the Ranbaxy Research Award, the ASBMB Lemberg Medal, the FAOBMB Research Excellence Award, the ANZSCDB President’s Medal and an Order of Australia.
